Camel trekking in Merzouga night in the desert is an experience that transforms the way you see the Sahara. As daylight fades, the dunes take on a silver glow under the moonlight, while on darker nights the sky opens up into an endless canvas filled with countless stars and occasional shooting stars. This overnight camel trekking journey allows you to disconnect from the outside world and immerse yourself fully in the silence, beauty, and rhythm of the desert.
The experience includes a camel ride across the Erg Chebbi dunes and an overnight stay in a desert camp of your choice. You can choose between a traditional Berber camp or a luxury desert camp, both fully equipped with comfortable bedding, dining areas, camp kitchens, and attentive service to ensure a memorable night in the Sahara.
In the late afternoon, usually around 5:00–6:00 PM depending on the season, you will meet at our guesthouse in Merzouga, where you can safely park your car and prepare a small backpack with essentials for the night such as water, a camera, sunscreen, and personal items.
Accompanied by an experienced camel guide, you will ride calmly through the rolling dunes, following ancient desert paths as the light slowly softens. Along the way, you may stop on a high dune to watch the sun set over the Sahara, or enjoy the sunset views near the camp depending on arrival time. Upon reaching the desert camp, you’ll be welcomed with traditional mint tea and shown to your private tent.
Before dinner, you’ll have free time to walk barefoot on the dunes, enjoy sandboarding, or simply relax and admire the peaceful surroundings. In the evening, a freshly prepared Moroccan dinner is served, either inside the main dining tent or outdoors under the stars when weather permits.
After dinner, the atmosphere comes alive around the campfire with traditional Berber music, drumming, and singing. This is also a wonderful moment to chat with the local Berbers, learn about nomadic life, and enjoy the calm desert night. Before sleeping, you can step away from the camp to experience stargazing in complete silence.
Early in the morning, you’ll wake up to watch the sunrise as golden light slowly spreads across the dunes, one of the most unforgettable moments of the Sahara. Breakfast is served at the camp, allowing you to enjoy the peaceful morning before beginning the return journey.
After breakfast, you will ride your camel back to Merzouga village, crossing the dunes one last time and bringing the overnight camel trekking in Merzouga experience to a memorable close.
